Antique Haori - Urushi woven Flower jacket.
Antique Haori Urushi Woven Flower
Urushi is one of the most durable natural lacquers known to man. Urushi is obtained from the sap of the lacquer tree which is native to South East Asia. Slashes are made in the tree and the sap which seeps out is caught in a container before being filtered several times through a number of layers of special paper.
Lacquerware pieces have been found to date back to 10,000 years which proves how durable Urushi is. In textiles, the silk thread is coated with lacquer before weaving. The shiny black in this Haori is proof of the coated lacquer as the metallic colours added to the design.
This beautiful silk Haori is lined and is in excellent condition
